This SIG focusses upon spirituality, mental health and wellbeing across diverse contexts, including in relation to study, research and practice.
The group emphasises co-creating a safe yet focussed space to reflect, explore and share skills and inspiration together.

Religious Disaffiliation: Subsequent experiences of life and care needs

Maria Björkmark
Leaving a religious community may lead to significant changes in a person’s life. Dr Maria Björkmark, University Lecturer at Åbo Akademi University in Finland, will be presenting a summary of her Doctoral research highlighting the implications of religious disaffiliation for a person’s life and health, and what constitutes support and care in this context. The group will be invited to reflect upon and discuss these themes after the presentation, facilitated by Jill Buckeldee and Katja Milner

Dr Katja Milner presented a summary of her Doctoral research on meaning making in the context of spirituality, mental health and recovery. She was joined by Katie Mottram, founder of ‘Emerging Proud’ who discussed meaning making in the context of spiritual emergence.
27th November 2023. "Finding HOPE in Existential Crisis: The role of spirituality in suicide aftercare and prevention"

We welcomed Dr Simon Jones from La Trobe University, Australia, to outline his experiences of working with suicide as Programme Lead of the Hospital Outreach Post-suicidal Engagement (HOPE) Programme in rural Australia, and the role spirituality plays in existential crisis.
