  Dr Mike Rush is a long-standing volunteer and former director of the UK Spiritual Crisis network (SCN) and has facilitated peer-support for people affected by spiritual crisis for over ten years.  His research focuses on spiritual crisis and spiritual/religious experiences and he offers one-to-one and peer support, workshops and courses on spiritual crisis and related topics. 
  
  

  This presentation discusses the phenomenon of spiritual crisis and spiritual emergency and describes and the work of the UK Spiritual Crisis Network. It summarises key PhD research findings exploring assessments of peer-support in this context, and 'grounding'  as a key component of integration work following spiritual crisis.

  The presentation will be followed by questions and a group discussion.

  This Spirituality and Education Special Interest Group welcomes people to explore the interplay of spirituality and education.  Our interests are diverse — from across the life course in educational and professional contexts, voluntary organizations and  community settings.  

  Abstracts are now open for the forthcoming INSS International Conference on 15-17 July 2027 in York, England International Network for the Study of Spirituality - Home.

  Submissions are due to close on 30th Nov.  This SEDSIG is an opportunity to collectively explore the conference theme through the lens of education.  We will discuss the conference theme and explore developing an abstract, individually and/or collectively.  We look forward to welcoming you to this engaging and energising discussion.

  Join art and film historian Gillian McIver for an evening exploring the rich relationship between cinema and the occult. Beginning with a lively illustrated talk, McIver traces the history of magical practice on screen, focusing on films that move beyond the familiar territory of horror to engage seriously with ritual, symbolism and esoteric philosophy.

  Join art and film historian Gillian McIver for an evening exploring the rich relationship between cinema and the occult. Beginning with a lively illustrated talk, McIver traces the history of magical practice on screen, focusing on films that move beyond the familiar territory of horror to engage seriously with ritual, symbolism and esoteric philosophy.

  The talk includes the work of filmmakers and artists who were practitioners of magick, including Maya Deren, Marjorie Cameron, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Kenneth Anger, revealing how their spiritual and magical practices shaped their cinematic vision. These and other artists raise the question of how spiritual ideas can be rendered on the screen effectively.

  The talk concludes with a discussion of how contemporary artists and filmmakers explore magickal practice and ritual in new and unexpected ways.

   About the speaker

  Gillian Mclver is the author of Art History for Filmmakers: The Art of Visual Storytelling and is an artist and art historian. She received her PhD in art history and cinema studies and has made many experimental films and exhibitions.
